TNPSC Group1 Preliminary Examination Syllabus Overview

1.3 Indian History & Culture

  • Ancient Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic period, major dynasties (Maurya, Gupta).
  • Medieval Sultanate, Vijayanagara, Bahmani, Maratha influence in Tamil Nadu.
  • Modern British rule, freedom movement, key personalities, constitutional development.
  • Art, architecture, literature, festivals, and classical music & dance forms of India.

1.4 Geography

  • Physical geography climatology, geomorphology, oceans, rivers, natural resources.
  • Indian geography major physiographic divisions, climate zones, vegetation.
  • World geography continents, major oceans, global wind and pressure systems.
  • Maps interpretation of political, physical and thematic maps.

1.5 Science & Technology

  • Basic concepts of physics, chemistry and biology relevant to everyday life.
  • Space technology ISRO missions, satellites, GPS.
  • Information Technology Internet, cybersecurity, egovernance.
  • Health & environment major diseases, vaccination, pollution, climate change.

1.6 Current Affairs (National & International)

  • Important national events elections, policy announcements, awards.
  • International affairs Summits (UN, G20, BRICS), treaties, bilateral relations.
  • Sports major tournaments, medal winners, records.
  • Science & discovery breakthroughs, Nobel laureates.

1.7 Tamil Nadu Specific Topics

  • Geography districts, rivers, climate zones, tourism spots.
  • History Sangam age, Chola, Pandya, Vijayanagara, British period.
  • Polity State administration, major schemes (PudhuVaazhvu, Amma Unavagam).

2.3 General English

  • Reading comprehension passages with questions on main idea, inference, tone.
  • Vocabulary synonyms, antonyms, idioms, phrasal verbs, oneword replacements.
