Overview
The Transportation Design Contest Scholarship 2022 is a global competition that aims to recognize and support emerging talent in vehicle design. Organized by the International Association of Transportation Designers (IATD), the scholarship provides financial assistance, mentorship, and exposure to industry leaders for students and recent graduates who demonstrate exceptional creative vision and technical skill.
Each year the contest receives hundreds of entries from across the world, ranging from concept sketches of futuristic cars to detailed digital renderings of sustainable publictransport solutions. The 2022 edition places a special emphasis on ecofriendly mobility, encouraging participants to explore ideas that reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the overall passenger experience.
Eligibility
To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in an accredited institution or have graduated within the past two years.
- Pursuing a degree in transportation design, industrial design, automotive engineering, or a related field.
- Be at least 18 years old on the submission deadline.
- Submit original work that has not been previously published or entered in another competition.
- Agree to allow IATD to showcase the submitted design on its official channels.
Prizes
The scholarship awards are structured to give winners both financial support and professional development opportunities:
- Grand Prize $5,000 plus a threemonth internship with a leading automotive design studio.
- First Runnerup $3,000 and a mentorship package with a senior designer from the industry.
- Second Runnerup $1,500 and a set of premium design software licenses for one year.
- All finalists will have their work featured in the Future Mobility digital gallery on the IATD website.

How to Apply
Follow these steps to submit your entry:
- Create an account on the IATD contest portal.
- Complete the online application form, providing personal details, academic background, and a brief design statement (max 300 words).
- Upload your portfolio (PDF, max 10MB). Include at least three highresolution images of your transportation design concept, with annotations describing design intent, sustainability features, and technical considerations.
- Submit a short video (optional, max 2minutes) that walks viewers through your design process.
- Pay the nominal processing fee of $25 (exempt for students from lowincome countries).
All submissions are reviewed for originality, creativity, feasibility, and alignment with the 2022 sustainability theme.
