TSPSC Group1 Syllabus & Exam Pattern (20242025)

Introduction

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) conducts the Group1 examination every year to recruit candidates for various senior administrative positions such as Deputy Collector, Assistant Commissioner, and other key roles in the state bureaucracy. Understanding the official syllabus and the exam pattern is essential for creating an effective study plan and maximizing the chances of success.

Exam Structure Overview

The TSPSC Group1 exam is conducted in three stages:

  1. PreScreening Test (PST) 50 multiplechoice questions (MCQs) in 60 minutes.
  2. Written Examination (WE) 180 questions divided into four papers, each of 100 marks, to be completed in 180 minutes.
  3. Interview / Personality Test 100 marks, assessing communication, analytical ability, and suitability for a senior administrative role.

The final merit list is prepared by adding marks from the written exam (WE) and the interview. The PST is only a qualifying filter (minimum 30% required).

PreScreening Test (PST) Details

The PST checks basic aptitude and general awareness. The sections are:

Paper I: General English (100 marks)

  • Vocabulary synonyms, antonyms, idioms & phrases.
  • Grammar transformation, fillintheblanks, error spotting.
  • Precis & Summary Writing concise expression of ideas.
  • Letter Writing formal and informal formats.

Paper II: General Studies Part I (100 marks)

Sections and Topics

  • History Ancient, Medieval, Modern Indian history; Nationalist movement; Freedom struggle.
  • Geography Physical geography of India and the world, Indian states & union territories, climate, resources.
  • Indian Polity & Governance Constitution, fundamental rights, duties, parliamentary system, State and Union relations, public policy.
  • Economics Macro & micro concepts, Indian economy, budgeting, fiscal policies, GST, banking.
  • Science & Technology Basics of physics, chemistry, biology; developments in IT, space, renewable energy.
  • Current Affairs (Last 12 months) National & International events, awards, sports, government schemes.

Paper III: General Studies Part II (100 marks)

This paper focuses on Telanganaspecific knowledge and the general administration framework.

  • Telangana History, Culture, Art & Heritage.
  • Geography of Telangana districts, rivers, climate, natural resources.
  • Constitutional provisions related to states, devolution of powers, Telanganas administrative structure.
  • State policies & programmes Agriculture, Education, Health, Skill Development, Rural Development, eGovernance.
  • Important Acts & Rules applicable in the state (e.g., Telangana Right to Education Act, Land Reforms).
  • Statistical data Population, literacy, economic indicators.

Paper IV: General Aptitude (100 marks)

  • Logical Reasoning analogies, series, puzzles, seating arrangements.
  • Analytical Ability data sufficiency, critical reasoning.
  • Quantitative Aptitude arithmetic, algebra, geometry, data interpretation, percentages.
  • DecisionMaking problem solving, case studies.
  • Computer Awareness basics of computer hardware, OS, MS Office, internet basics, cyber security.

Scoring & Negative Marking

Each correct answer yields 1 mark. Wrong answers attract a penalty of 0.25 marks. No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.

Interview / Personality Test

After clearing the written exam, candidates are called for an interview lasting about 2030 minutes. The panel assesses:

  • Communication skills and clarity of thought.
  • Leadership potential and decisionmaking ability.
  • Awareness of current affairs and state issues.
  • Ethical standards and motivation for public service.

Marks are awarded on a scale of 0100. The final merit list combines WE (maximum 400) + Interview (maximum 100) for a total of 500 marks.
