Wayne E. Hesch Memorial Scholarship Program

Program Overview

The Wayne E. Hesch Memorial Scholarship Program was created to honor the legacy of Wayne E. Hesch, a passionate advocate for education and community development. Since its inception, the scholarship has supported aspiring students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to giving back to their communities. The program is administered by a dedicated committee of educators, alumni, and community leaders who review applications annually and award scholarships to deserving candidates.

While the scholarship originally focused on students pursuing studies in business and public administrationthe fields that were close to Mr. Heschs heartit has broadened its scope over time. Today, it welcomes applicants from a wide range of majors, provided they meet the programs core criteria of academic merit, financial need, and community involvement.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following conditions to be considered for the Wayne E. Hesch Memorial Scholarship:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Enroll fulltime in an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA or an equivalent financial aid form.
  • Show evidence of leadership and community service through volunteer work, campus involvement, or other meaningful activities.
  • Submit a personal essay (500800 words) that reflects on personal goals, the impact of education, and how Wayne E. Heschs values influence the applicants aspirations.
  • Provide two letters of recommendationone from an academic source and one from a community or professional mentor.

High school seniors transitioning directly to college are also eligible, provided they meet the GPA and recommendation criteria.

Scholarship Benefits

The Wayne E. Hesch Memorial Scholarship offers the following benefits to each recipient:

  • Financial Support: Up to $5,000 per academic year, renewable for up to four years subject to maintaining eligibility.
  • Mentorship Program: Recipients are paired with a Hesch Alumni Mentor who provides guidance on academic planning, career development, and networking.
  • Leadership Workshops: Access to annual workshops focused on public speaking, project management, and community engagement.
  • Professional Networking: Invitations to exclusive events with donors, business leaders, and former scholars.
  • Recognition: Public acknowledgment in the scholarships annual report and on the programs website.

Recipients who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher may be eligible for an additional merit award of $1,000 each year.

  1. Gather Documents: FAFSA (or equivalent), official transcripts, two recommendation letters, and a recent rsum.
  2. Write Your Essay: Address the prompt How does the spirit of community service shape your academic and career goals? Keep the essay between 500800 words.
  3. Complete the Online Form: Visit the official scholarship portal and fill out the application form. Upload all required documents in PDF format.
  4. Submit Before the Deadline: Applications are accepted from January 1 to March 31 each year. Late submissions will not be considered.
  5. Interview (if selected): Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual interview with the selection committee.

All applications are reviewed confidentially, and decisions are communicated by June 15.
