Empowering Youth Through Voluntary Service
The YMCA Bath Group European Voluntary Service (EVS) project represents a transformative opportunity for young people to engage in meaningful cross-border experiences. This groundbreaking initiative connects willing volunteers with community organizations, fostering cultural exchange, personal development, and social impact.
As part of the European Union's Erasmus+ Programme, the EVS project enables young people aged 17-30 to express their personal commitment through unpaid and full-time voluntary service in another country within or outside the European Union. The YMCA Bath Group has been successfully participating in and coordinating these projects for several years, creating opportunities for life-changing experiences.
The YMCA Bath Group EVS project is dedicated to providing young people with opportunities to develop their skills, intercultural understanding, and European citizenship through voluntary service, while contributing to local communities and addressing social needs.
Our mission is rooted in the YMCA's core values of respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty. We believe that through voluntary service, young people can not only make a positive impact on their host communities but also undergo incredible personal growth and development.
The EVS experience typically lasts between 2 to 12 months, during which volunteers work in various organizations focusing on different thematic areas such as culture, youth, sports, children, cultural heritage, arts, animal welfare, environment, and development cooperation.
Volunteers participating in the YMCA Bath Group EVS project are fully supported throughout their journey. This includes:
The EVS experience creates profound changes in young people's lives. Participants return home with:
Many former volunteers cite their EVS experience as a turning point in their personal and professional lives, with improved career prospects and a more open, tolerant worldview.
The YMCA Bath Group has successfully implemented numerous EVS projects, each addressing specific community needs while providing valuable learning experiences for volunteers.
Our ongoing project focuses on engaging young people at risk of exclusion, providing them with positive activities and role models. Volunteers work alongside local staff to run youth clubs, organize community events, and provide support services to young people in Bath and surrounding areas.
Former EVS volunteers have contributed significantly to cultural preservation initiatives in Bath, helping to document and celebrate the city's rich history and diverse heritage. This project included organizing cultural events, creating educational materials, and conducting oral history interviews with residents.
Our environmental volunteers have led numerous sustainability initiatives, including community gardens, recycling campaigns, and environmental education programs in local schools. These projects have had a lasting impact on community awareness about environmental issues.
