ALPHA KAPPA RHO

Constitution and Bylaws

Preamble

We, the members of Alpha Kappa Rho, in order to establish a just and honorable organization, promote unity and solidarity among members, provide for efficient governance, and ensure the perpetuation of our noble traditions and principles, do hereby adopt and establish this Constitution and Bylaws.

Note: This document outlines the fundamental principles and rules governing the operation of Alpha Kappa Rho. All members are expected to familiarize themselves with its contents and abide by its provisions.

Article I: Name and Objectives

Section 1. The name of this organization shall be Alpha Kappa Rho (also known as AKRho).

Section 2. The objectives of Alpha Kappa Rho shall be:

  1. To promote unity, solidarity, and brotherhood among all members
  2. To develop and enhance leadership skills among its members
  3. To support academic excellence and personal development
  4. To contribute to community service and nation-building
  5. To uphold justice, righteousness, and integrity in all undertakings
  6. To promote respect for dignity of individuals regardless of race, religion, or creed

Article II: Membership

Section 1. Membership in Alpha Kappa Rho shall be open to individuals who:

  1. Have completed the prescribed requirements for membership
  2. Have been officially initiated into the organization
  3. Have taken the oath of allegiance to Alpha Kappa Rho
  4. Are in good standing with the university or institution where a chapter exists

Section 2. Membership categories shall include:

  • Regular Members: Those who have completed all requirements and have been formally initiated
  • Honorary Members: Distinguished individuals recognized for their contributions to society
  • Alumni Members: Former students who remain actively involved with the organization

Section 3. Rights of members shall include:

  1. The right to vote in all chapter elections
  2. The right to hold office when qualified
  3. The right to participate in all activities of the chapter
  4. The right to express opinions and suggestions for the betterment of the organization

Section 4. Responsibilities of members shall include:

  1. Upholding the constitution and bylaws of Alpha Kappa Rho
  2. Participating actively in chapter programs and activities
  3. Contributing to the chapter's financial obligations
  4. Maintaining good moral character both within and outside the organization
  5. Promoting the welfare of the organization and fellow members

Article III: Organization and Governance

Section 1. The organizational structure of Alpha Kappa Rho shall consist of:

  1. National Level
  2. Regional Level
  3. Jurisdiction/Provincial Level
  4. College/University Chapter Level
  5. High School Chapter Level

Section 2. Each chapter shall be autonomous in its internal affairs, provided that such autonomy does not conflict with the national constitution and bylaws.

Section 3. The National Council shall be the supreme governing body between National Conventions.

Article IV: Officers

Section 1. The chapter officers shall be:

  • Supreme Grand Master
  • Deputy Grand Master
  • Secretary-General
  • Treasurer-General
  • Auditor-General
  • Public Relations Officer
  • Sergeant-at-Arms
  • Committee Heads

Section 2. Officers shall be elected by regular members in good standing.

Article V: Elections

Section 1. Regular elections shall be held annually.

Section 2. Officers shall be elected by a majority vote of all regular members present.

Section 3. Special elections may be called when an officer position becomes vacant.

Section 4. Any member seeking office must be in good standing with the chapter.

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1. Regular meetings shall be held once a month.

Section 2. Special meetings may be called by the Supreme Grand Master or upon petition of at least one-third of the membership.

Section 3. A quorum shall consist of a majority of the regular membership.

Section 4. Roberts Rules of Order shall govern proceedings.

Article VII: Finances

Section 1. The chapter treasury shall be maintained from:

  • Membership dues
  • Special assessments
  • Donations and grants
  • Income from authorized activities

Section 2. All financial transactions shall require dual signatures from authorized officers.

Article VIII: Disciplinary Actions

Section 1. Grounds for disciplinary action include:

  • Violation of the Constitution and Bylaws
  • Misconduct bringing dishonor to the organization
  • Neglect of duties for officers
  • Financial irregularities

Section 2. Disciplinary sanctions range from reprimand to expulsion based on gravity of offense.

Article IX: Amendments

Section 1. Amendments may be proposed by:

  • The National Council
  • A majority vote of any chapter
  • A petition signed by at least 20% of the total membership

Section 2. Amendments require a two-thirds vote of the National Convention or a special assembly.

Article X: Symbolism and Traditions

Section 1. The official colors of Alpha Kappa Rho shall be red and gold.

Section 2. The official seal shall be circular with the letters "AKRho" in the center and the year of establishment below.

Section 3. The motto of Alpha Kappa Rho shall be "BROTHERHOOD AND UNITY."

Section 4. The official greeting shall be "Ako Rho!" with the right hand raised to the chest.

Tradition Note: While Alpha Kappa Rho maintains certain traditions, these are secondary to the principles of brotherhood, unity, and service that form the foundation of our organization.

Article XI: External Relations

Section 1. Alpha Kappa Rho shall establish harmonious relationships with other recognized student organizations.

Section 2. The organization may form alliances with other fraternities and sororities for common purposes.

Section 3. Inter-organizational disputes shall be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means.

Section 4. Alpha Kappa Rho shall participate in community service and civic activities that align with its objectives.

Article XII: Dissolution

Section 1. A chapter may be dissolved only by a three-fourths vote of all regular members, subject to approval by the National Council.

Section 2. In the event of dissolution, all properties and assets shall be transferred to the National Council or a charitable institution designated by the National Council.

Section 3. No member shall receive any portion of the assets of the chapter upon dissolution.

Ratification

This Constitution and Bylaws, having been approved by the requisite majority of the National Convention, shall be the supreme law of Alpha Kappa Rho and shall supersede all previous constitutions and bylaws. This document shall take effect immediately upon ratification.
