The personnel policies outlined below provide a framework for recruitment, employment, conduct, compensation, benefits, performance management, and termination. These policies are designed to comply with federal, state, and local laws, while reflecting AUs core values of integrity, respect, inclusion, and academic excellence. Staff positions are classified as either Exempt (salary) or NonExempt (hourly) in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Classification determines eligibility for overtime pay. All staff are expected to act with professionalism, honesty, and respect. Harassment, discrimination, or any behavior that creates a hostile work environment will not be tolerated. Employees must avoid situations where personal interests could improperly influence professional judgment. Any potential conflict must be disclosed to the Office of Human Resources. AU propertyincluding computers, email, and internet accessshould be used primarily for university business. Personal use must be reasonable and not interfere with official duties. Staff members should identify themselves as university employees when speaking publicly about AU matters and must not disclose confidential information. Salary ranges are established based on market analyses, internal equity, and job responsibilities. Annual salary reviews consider performance, market adjustments, and budgetary constraints. AU offers a 403(b) retirement plan with a matching contribution up to 4% of eligible compensation. Employees may also participate in the universitys defined benefit pension, where applicable. Annual performance reviews are conducted by supervisors using a standardized rating system. The process includes selfassessment, goal setting, and discussion of achievements and development needs. AU encourages continuous learning. Staff may apply for tuition assistance, attend conferences, or participate in internal training programs. Funding is subject to approval and budget availability. Promotions are based on demonstrated competence, performance, and organizational need. Internal transfers must follow the same posting and selection procedures as external hires. Employees are requested to provide at least two weeks written notice. Exit interviews are conducted to gather feedback and discuss final pay, benefits continuation, and return of university property. Termination may result from performance issues, policy violations, or organizational restructuring. Employees will receive written notice, an explanation of the reason, and information on final compensation and benefits. Severance pay is not guaranteed but may be offered at the discretion of senior administration, particularly in cases of largescale workforce reductions.
