Overview
The Automated Vehicle Technologies Group (AVTG) is a multidisciplinary research and development team dedicated to creating safe, reliable, and scalable autonomous vehicle solutions. Founded in 2015, AVTG brings together experts in robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, control systems, and humanmachine interaction to address the technical challenges that stand between todays driverassisted features and fully driverless transportation.
Our mission is simple: Accelerate the safe integration of automated vehicles into public roadways worldwide. To achieve this, we focus on three core pillarstechnology innovation, rigorous testing, and collaborative standards development.
Research Areas
AVTGs research portfolio spans the entire autonomous driving stack:
- Sensing & Perception: Advanced LiDAR, radar, and camera fusion algorithms that deliver 360 awareness in all weather conditions.
- Localization & Mapping: Highdefinition maps, realtime SLAM, and GNSSaugmented positioning for centimeterlevel accuracy.
- DecisionMaking & Planning: Predictive trajectory planning, behavior modeling, and ethical decision frameworks.
- Control & Actuation: Robust lowlevel control loops that translate planned paths into smooth vehicle motion.
- HumanMachine Interaction: Designing intuitive interfaces, driver monitoring, and fallback strategies for mixedinitiative driving.
- Safety & Verification: Formal methods, scenariobased testing, and safety case generation to satisfy regulatory requirements.
Key Projects
Our work is organized around missioncritical projects that push the state of the art.
Urban Navigator
A cityscale autonomous platform that pilots a fleet of electric shuttles through dense downtown corridors. Highlights include dynamic routereplanning around construction zones and realtime pedestrian intent estimation.
Highway Pilot+
An enhanced adaptive cruise system designed for highspeed motorways. It combines multivehicle V2X communication with predictive lanechange algorithms to achieve safe platooning at 120 km/h.
Rural Reach
Targeted at lowpopulation regions, this project explores lowcost sensor suites and satelliteonly localization to bring autonomous services to farms, mines, and remote logistics hubs.
Safety Validation Suite (SVS)
A cloudbased simulation environment that runs billions of virtual miles across diverse traffic scenarios. SVS provides quantitative safety metrics that inform both development and regulatory review.
