Overview
The John F. Lynch Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 to honor the legacy of John F. Lynch, a dedicated educator, community leader, and advocate for highereducation access. The scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service.
Purpose and Goals
The scholarships primary objectives are to:
- Support students who might otherwise be unable to afford tuition, books, and related expenses.
- Encourage academic achievement and lifelong learning.
- Foster leadership qualities and civic engagement among recipients.
- Preserve the spirit of John F. Lynchs belief that education is a catalyst for positive societal change.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a resident of the United States, Canada, or a U.S. territory.
- Be enrolled fulltime in an accredited fouryear college or university.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrate involvement in community service, extracurricular activities, or leadership roles.
- Submit a personal essay (max 500 words) explaining how the scholarship aligns with their academic and career goals.
- Provide two letters of recommendation one from a faculty member and one from a community leader or employer.
Application Process
Applications are accepted annually from October 1 to January 31. The process consists of the following steps:
- Online Application: Complete the form on the official scholarship portal.
- Transcripts: Upload an official transcript from your most recent semester.
- Essay: Write a concise essay describing your academic interests, career aspirations, and how you intend to give back to your community.
- Recommendations: Provide contact details for two recommenders; the scholarship committee will request the letters directly.
- Financial Information (optional): While the scholarship is meritbased, applicants can submit a FAFSA summary if they wish the committee to consider financial need as a secondary factor.
- Submission: Review all materials and click Submit. You will receive an automatic confirmation email.
All applications are reviewed by a panel of educators, alumni, and community leaders. Final decisions are announced on the scholarship website by March 15.
Award Details
Each academic year, up to three scholarships are awarded. The benefit includes:
- A onetime stipend of $5,000 to cover tuition, books, or other educationrelated costs.
- Eligibility for a mentorship program pairing recipients with professionals in their field of interest.
- An invitation to the annual John F. Lynch Legacy Dinner, where scholars network with past recipients and donors.
Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submit a brief annual report describing academic progress and community involvement.

How to Contribute

Donors receive a receipt for taxbenefit purposes and may be recognized (with permission) on the scholarships donor wall.
