John F. Lynch Memorial Scholarship

Overview

The John F. Lynch Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 to honor the legacy of John F. Lynch, a dedicated educator, community leader, and advocate for highereducation access. The scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service.

Purpose and Goals

The scholarships primary objectives are to:

  • Support students who might otherwise be unable to afford tuition, books, and related expenses.
  • Encourage academic achievement and lifelong learning.
  • Foster leadership qualities and civic engagement among recipients.
  • Preserve the spirit of John F. Lynchs belief that education is a catalyst for positive societal change.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be a resident of the United States, Canada, or a U.S. territory.
  • Be enrolled fulltime in an accredited fouryear college or university.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Demonstrate involvement in community service, extracurricular activities, or leadership roles.
  • Submit a personal essay (max 500 words) explaining how the scholarship aligns with their academic and career goals.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation one from a faculty member and one from a community leader or employer.

Application Process

Applications are accepted annually from October 1 to January 31. The process consists of the following steps:

  1. Online Application: Complete the form on the official scholarship portal.
  2. Transcripts: Upload an official transcript from your most recent semester.
  3. Essay: Write a concise essay describing your academic interests, career aspirations, and how you intend to give back to your community.
  4. Recommendations: Provide contact details for two recommenders; the scholarship committee will request the letters directly.
  5. Financial Information (optional): While the scholarship is meritbased, applicants can submit a FAFSA summary if they wish the committee to consider financial need as a secondary factor.
  6. Submission: Review all materials and click Submit. You will receive an automatic confirmation email.

All applications are reviewed by a panel of educators, alumni, and community leaders. Final decisions are announced on the scholarship website by March 15.
