New Language Leader Elementary Wordlist AZ

Introduction

The New Language Leader Elementary series is designed for learners at the A1A2 level of the CEFR. One of its most useful resources is the Wordlist AZ, which gathers the essential vocabulary for each unit and arranges it alphabetically. This format helps students to locate words quickly, review them systematically, and monitor their progress throughout the course.

The wordlist covers a broad range of everyday topics from greetings and family to food, travel, and health. It also provides partofspeech information, example sentences and, where appropriate, pronunciation guidance.

How to Use the Wordlist

There are several effective ways to incorporate the AZ Wordlist into your study routine:

  • Quick reference: When you encounter an unfamiliar word in a reading or listening activity, flip to the alphabetical list to see its meaning and a short example.
  • Regular review: Spend 510 minutes each day scanning a few letters, trying to recall meanings before checking the list.
  • Flashcard creation: Write the word on one side of a card and its definition/example on the other. Group cards by letter for focused practice.
  • Selftesting: Hide the definitions and write a sentence using the word. Then compare your sentence with the example provided.
  • Pronunciation check: Use the phonetic transcription (when available) to practice accurate pronunciation.

Study Tips for Elementary Learners

To get the most out of the New Language Leader Wordlist, try combining the following strategies:

  1. Chunking: Study a small group of words (e.g., five to ten) each day rather than trying to memorize the entire list at once.
  2. Contextual learning: Read or listen to short dialogues that contain the target words. Seeing them in context improves retention.
  3. Spaced repetition: Review the same set of words after one day, then after three days, then after a week.
  4. Multisensory practice: Write the word, say it aloud, and draw a quick picture that represents its meaning.
  5. Peer teaching: Pair up with a classmate and quiz each other on the definitions and usage.

Remember that consistency is key. Even a brief daily review will build a solid foundation for further language development.
