About the Center

The Northwest Florida Reception Center (NFWRC) is a staterun correctional institution located in Chipley, Washington County, Florida. Operated by the Florida Department of Corrections, it serves as a primary intake and processing hub for male inmates entering the Florida prison system from the northwestern region of the state.

Founded in 1995, the centers original purpose was to provide a secure, efficiently managed environment where newly sentenced individuals could be classified, medically examined, and assigned to appropriate longterm facilities based on security level, programming needs, and institutional capacity.

Interfaith chaplaincy services are available daily, with worship opportunities for Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and other faith traditions. The chaplaincy also offers counseling and crisis intervention.

Visitation Guidelines

Visitation at NFWRC is designed to maintain safety while encouraging family connections that aid rehabilitation. The following guidelines apply:

• Visiting days: Saturdays and Sundays
• Hours: 9:00am 5:00pm (firstcome, firstserved basis)
• Visitors must be on the inmates approved list and present valid photo ID.
• Dress code: No revealing or provocative clothing; shirts and shoes required.
• Electronic devices are prohibited inside the visitation area.

All visitors undergo a security screening. Video visitation is also available for those who cannot travel to Chipley.
