Overview
The Robert Alcorn Memorial Arts Scholarship was established in honor of Robert Alcorn, a dedicated patron of the visual and performing arts. The scholarship aims to recognize and financially support students who demonstrate exceptional artistic talent, academic promise, and a commitment to contributing to their artistic community.
Each year, a panel of artists, educators, and community leaders reviews applications and selects scholars who embody the spirit of creativity, perseverance, and leadership that Robert Alcorn championed throughout his life.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a fulltime student enrolled in a recognized college, university, or art institute in the United States.
- Declare a major or concentration in a visual, performing, literary, or multidisciplinary art field.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrate financial need, as defined by the FAFSA or equivalent documentation.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Submit a portfolio or work sample that reflects original artistic achievement (format specifications are listed in the application section).
Benefits
The scholarship provides a onetime award of $4,000, payable directly to the recipients institution. In addition to the monetary award, scholars receive:
- Mentorship opportunities with established artists and alumni.
- Invitation to an annual showcase event where scholars present their work.
- Access to a network of past recipients for collaboration and support.
- Eligibility for renewal if the scholar continues to meet academic and artistic standards (subject to annual review).
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online through the scholarship portal. The required materials include:
- Completed application form.
- Official transcript showing current GPA.
- Proof of financial need (FAFSA summary or equivalent).
- Two letters of recommendationone academic and one from an artist/mentor.
- Personal statement (500800 words) describing artistic goals, influences, and how the scholarship will impact your future.
- Portfolio: up to 10 items (images, video links, or audio files) with brief descriptions.
All documents must be uploaded in PDF format (except video/audio which may be linked from YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud). Incomplete applications will not be considered.
