About SEAMEO
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 1965 to promote cooperation in education, science, and culture in Southeast Asia. History
SEAMEO was founded during a period of educational awakening in Southeast Asia, as newly independent nations sought to strengthen their education systems and foster regional cooperation. The idea for such an organization was proposed at the Conference of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education held in Manila, Philippines, in November 1965.
SEAMEO establishment at the conference in Manila; initial five member countries: Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam; first SEAMEO centre established in Singapore.
Rapid expansion with new centres in various countries; addition of Singapore as member country; development of specialized programs in language, science, and vocational education.

SEAMEO's primary mission is to enhance regional understanding and cooperation in education, science, and culture for the betterment of Southeast Asian nations. This is achieved through various strategic objectives:

Organizational Structure

SEAMEO Council
The SEAMEO Council, composed of the ministers of education of member countries, serves as the highest policy-making body. Secretariat
The SEAMEO Secretariat, headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, serves as the executive arm of the organization. Headed by a Director, it implements Council decisions, coordinates activities among regional centres, manages partnerships, and ensures smooth operations of the organization.
