Overview
The TU Dublin Research Scholarship Programme (RSP) is a competitive, meritbased initiative that supports postgraduate research students across the universitys three campuses North Dublin, Tallaght and CityCampus. It aims to attract highcalibre candidates, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and boost the universitys research profile both nationally and internationally.
Scholarships are awarded for fulltime research leading to a Ph.D. or a funded Masters by Research (M.Sc.). Recipients receive a tuition waiver, a modest living stipend, and access to a suite of development resources.

Who Can Apply?
The RSP is open to any applicant who meets the general eligibility criteria for postgraduate research at TU Dublin, including:
- Individuals holding a recognised bachelors degree (minimum 2:1 Honours) or equivalent.
- International students with a valid study permit.
- Applicants whose research aligns with the universitys strategic research themes:
- Health & Life Sciences
- Engineering & Built Environment
- Business, Law & Governance
- Digital & Media Technology
Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic record, a clear research proposal, and the potential to contribute to their field.
Application Process
1. Prepare Your Documents
- Completed online application form.
- Academic transcripts and degree certificates.
- Research proposal (max 2,000 words) outlining aims, methodology, timeline and expected outcomes.
- Curriculum Vitae highlighting research experience, publications and presentations.
- Two academic references (preferably from supervisors or lecturers).
- Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable).
2. Submit via the TU Dublin Portal
All materials are uploaded to the TU Dublin application portal. The deadline for the autumn intake is 31January each year; a secondary deadline for the spring intake is 31July.
3. Review & Shortlisting
The Scholarship Committee, comprising senior faculty and external experts, assesses each application against academic merit, research feasibility and alignment with the universitys priorities. Shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview (in person or via video conference).
4. Offer & Acceptance
Successful applicants receive an official award letter. Acceptance must be confirmed within 30days, after which enrolment procedures commence.
Eligibility & Conditions
- Scholars must maintain satisfactory academic progress (minimum 70% overall).
- Fulltime enrolment is mandatory; parttime study is not permitted under the RSP.
- Recipients are required to submit an annual progress report and give a public presentation of their research findings.
- The scholarship is nontransferable and cannot be combined with other TU Dublin tuitionwaiver schemes.
- International scholars must ensure their immigration status remains valid throughout the study period.

Since its launch in 2015, the programme has supported over 300 scholars. Notable achievements include:
- Dr. Aisha Khan (2021) Developed a lowcost portable airquality sensor now commercialised by an Irish startup.
- Prof. Michael OLeary (2020) Published a seminal paper on renewable microgrids cited over 500 times.
- Ms. Lucia Prez (2022) Won the European Young Investigator Award for her work on digital heritage preservation.
Alumni frequently secure postdoctoral positions, industry research roles or launch successful enterprises, highlighting the programmes impact on career trajectories.
