Overview
The West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCVT) is a statutory body of the Government of West Bengal, established under the West Bengal Technical Education Act, 1995. Its primary role is to promote, regulate, and coordinate technical, vocational and skillbased education across the state. The Council works in close partnership with schools, polytechnics, industrial training institutes (ITIs), and private training providers to create a skilled workforce aligned with the evolving needs of industry and the economy.
Since its inception, WBSCVT has been instrumental in expanding access to quality technical education for students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, especially in rural and underserved areas. The Councils programs range from shortterm certification courses to diploma programmes, all designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

Affiliation & Recognition
The Council is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India. All diplomas and certificates issued by WBSCVT are nationally accepted and enable further highereducation pathways, such as B.Tech programmes or postgraduate studies.

Admission Process
For Diploma Courses
- Online Application: Fill the WBSCVT portal form (usually opened in May).
- Entrance Examination: Appear for the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics (JEEPoly), conducted by the Council.
- Merit List & Counseling: Seats allocated based on rank, preference and availability.
- Document Verification & Fee Payment: Submit mark sheets, identity proof, and pay the prescribed fee.
For Certificate & Skill Courses
- Direct enrollment through the WBSCVT website or partner training centres.
- No entrance test for most shortterm courses; eligibility is based on minimum 10th grade.
- Selection may involve a personal interview or aptitude test for specialised programmes.
