EFT Tapping Scripts to Prevent Early School Leaving

Early school leaving is a complex issue often rooted in emotional distress, anxiety, lack of motivation, or social challenges. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as Tapping, is a powerful tool to help students regulate their nervous systems, reduce stress, and build the emotional resilience needed to stay engaged in their education.

The following scripts are designed for students, parents, or counselors to address the underlying emotional drivers that contribute to dropping out. These scripts help shift the energy from resistance and fear to calm and capability.

Understanding the Emotional Roots

Before beginning the tapping, it is important to recognize that school refusal or the desire to drop out is often a symptom of emotional overwhelm. A student may feel "stupid," overwhelmed by the workload, afraid of failure, or bullied by peers. EFT works by calming the amygdala (the brain's stress center) while acknowledging these difficult feelings.

How to Use These Scripts

Rate the intensity of the feeling on a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the most intense). Tap the Karate Chop point (the side of the hand) while repeating the Setup phrase three times. Then, tap through the points on the face and body while repeating the Reminder phrases. After a round, rate the intensity again.

The Tapping Points Sequence:

  1. Top of Head
  2. Eyebrow (Inner edge)
  3. Side of Eye (On the bone)
  4. Under Eye (On the bone)
  5. Under Nose
  6. Chin
  7. Collarbone
  8. Under Arm (About 4 inches down from the armpit)

Script 1: Overcoming Overwhelm and Anxiety

Use this script when the student feels paralyzed by the amount of work, the size of the school, or general anxiety about attending class.

Setup (Karate Chop Point): "Even though I feel so overwhelmed by school right now, I deeply and completely accept myself anyway."

Top of Head: I feel so overwhelmed.
Eyebrow: There is so much to do.
Side of Eye: It feels like it's too much for me.
Under Eye: I just want to run away.
Under Nose: My chest feels tight when I think about school.
Chin: I don't know if I can handle this.
Collarbone: All this pressure is weighing me down.
Under Arm: I feel like giving up before I even start.
Top of Head: Its just too big to handle.
Positive Shift (Repeat if the intensity has dropped):
Top of Head: I am taking this one step at a time.
Eyebrow: I can handle one thing at a time.
Side of Eye: I don't have to solve everything today.
Under Eye: Its okay to feel calm.
Under Nose: I choose to breathe through the pressure.
Chin: I am capable of handling my tasks.
Collarbone: I am grounding myself in the present moment.
Under Arm: I give myself permission to take it slow.
Top of Head: I am finding my focus.

Script 2: Fear of Failure and "I'm Not Smart Enough"

Many students disengage to protect their ego. If they don't try, they can't fail. This script addresses the core belief of inadequacy.

Setup (Karate Chop Point): "Even though Im afraid Im not smart enough for school, I choose to accept who I am and how I learn."

Top of Head: What if Im just not smart enough?
Eyebrow: Everyone else seems to get it but me.
Side of Eye: I feel so stupid in class.
Under Eye: Im scared to try and fail.
Under Nose: Its safer to just quit.
Chin: I don't want to look foolish.
Collarbone: My grades define who I am.
Under Arm: I feel like giving up to save face.
Top of Head: Failure is too painful.
Positive Shift:
Top of Head: I am more than my grades.
Eyebrow: I learn in my own way.
Side of Eye: It is okay to make mistakes.
Under Eye: I am open to learning new things.
Under Nose: I respect my own intelligence.
Chin: I ask for help when I need it.
Collarbone: I am building my confidence every day.
Under Arm: I believe in my potential.
Top of Head: I am smart enough to figure this out.

Script 3: Social Anxiety and Belonging

Feeling isolated or bullied is a primary cause of early leaving. This script helps manage the fear of judgment and the pain of exclusion.

Setup (Karate Chop Point): "Even though I feel like I don't belong at this school, I deeply and completely accept myself."

Top of Head: I feel so isolated at school.
Eyebrow: Nobody really understands me.
Side of Eye: I dread walking into the classroom.
Under Eye: I feel like an outsider.
Under Nose: It hurts to feel invisible.
Chin: I don't fit in with these groups.
Collarbone: I would rather be alone than feel this rejection.
Under Arm: I don't want to go back there.
Top of Head: Being there is too lonely.
Positive Shift:
Top of Head: I am okay with who I am.
Eyebrow: I can connect with people who are like me.
Side of Eye: I feel safe in my own skin.
Under Eye: I carry my own confidence.
Under Nose: I release the need for everyone's approval.
Chin: I am open to making a friend.
Collarbone: I belong in this world.
Under Arm: I treat myself with kindness.
Top of Head: I value my unique contribution.

Script 4: Finding Motivation and Future Vision

When apathy sets in, the student loses sight of why education matters. This script reconnects them with their future goals.

Setup (Karate Chop Point): "Even though I don't see the point of staying in school, I accept my feelings and am open to finding my path."

Top of Head: What is the point of all this?
Eyebrow: None of this matters to my future.
Side of Eye: Im so bored and unmotivated.
Under Eye: I just want to be done with it.
Under Nose: School feels like a waste of time.
Chin: I don't care about my grades.
Collarbone: I feel stuck and directionless.
Under Arm: Why should I even try?
Top of Head: I don't have the energy for this.
Positive Shift:
Top of Head: I am open to new possibilities.
Eyebrow: Education is a stepping stone to my freedom.
Side of Eye: I am building a foundation for my future.
Under Eye: I can find things that interest me.
Under Nose: I have skills that are valuable.
Chin: I am discovering what I want in life.
Collarbone: I am getting closer to my goals every day.
Under Arm: I choose to create a life I enjoy.
Top of Head: I am excited about my potential.

Tips for Success

  • Consistency is Key: Use these scripts daily, ideally in the morning before school or in the evening when stress peaks.
  • Be Specific: If the student is stressed about a specific teacher or subject, include that specific detail in the script (e.g., "Even though Mr. Smith's class scares me...").
  • Validate Feelings: Never tell a student they "shouldn't" feel this way. EFT works best when the negative emotion is acknowledged before it is released.
  • Seek Professional Help: While EFT is a self-help tool, early school leaving can be linked to deeper psychological issues. Always seek the support of a school counselor or mental health professional if needed.

By addressing the emotional barriers to learning, we can help students stay in school, feel safer, and realize their full potential.
