What is the Communicator B2?
The LanguageCert Communicator B2 International ESOL is an English language qualification aimed at learners who have reached an upperintermediate level of proficiency (B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR). It is designed for both academic and professional contexts, proving that candidates can understand the main ideas of complex texts, interact fluently with native speakers, and produce clear, detailed written work.
Unlike many traditional tests, the Communicator series focuses on practical communication skills and realworld tasks. The B2 level bridges the gap between everyday language use and the demands of higher education or workplace environments.
Exam Structure
The exam is divided into four modules, all of which are assessed online through a secure platform. Candidates may take the modules on the same day or spread them over several sessions.
- Listening (30 minutes) 30 multiplechoice items based on recordings of interviews, lectures, and everyday conversations.
- Reading (45 minutes) 30 items covering articles, emails, advertisements, and longer texts such as reports.
- Writing (55 minutes) Two tasks: a 150200 word email/letter and a 250300 word essay or report.
- Speaking (1520 minutes, remote) Two interactive tasks with a trained examiner: a guided conversation and a collaborative problemsolving activity.
All parts are scored on a scale of 0100. A result of 60 or above in each module is required for a Pass.
