Community & Development

Beyond the competition, the 2016 season emphasized youth development. Each club was required to run a minimum of two coaching clinics per month, led by accredited coaches from Football NSW. Over 1,500 coaching hours were delivered, focusing on technical skills, tactical awareness, and player welfare. The initiative contributed to a 12% increase in participation for the following 2017 season.

Player Spotlights

Jacob Jazzy Clarke Midfielder, Manly United (U16)

At 17 years old, Clarke combined vision, precision passing, and setpiece mastery. His 24goal haul included five from direct freekicks, a rare feat at this age level. Scouts from A-League clubs attended several matches, and Clarke was invited to a trial with Sydney FCs youth squad in early 2017.

Liam OConnor Forward, Warringah Wildcats (U12)

Only twelve but already a poachers instinct. OConnors 19 goals came from three different positions on the field, demonstrating versatility. His quick acceleration and calm finishing earned him the Future Star award at the endofseason awards ceremony.

Emily Silva Referee (Youth Development Programme)

While the competition is for boys, Emily Silva played a pivotal role in 2016 as a member of the NSW Referees Associations youth development pathway. She officiated twelve matches across all divisions, providing an inclusive role model for aspiring female officials.

Impact on Local Football

The 2016 season reinforced Sydney Norths reputation as a breeding ground for talent. Key outcomes include:

  • Talent pathways: 8 players secured spots in statelevel representative squads.
  • Coach education: 27 coaches completed the Advanced Youth Coaching course.
  • Facilities upgrade: Funding from the NSW Government enabled new lighting at Brookvale Sports Complex, extending training hours.
  • Community growth: Local businesses reported a 15% increase in matchday revenue.

Looking Ahead

Building on the momentum of 2016, clubs pledged to expand participation to over 350 players by 2018, introduce a girls division, and increase digital engagement with live streaming of key matches. The focus remains on fostering a supportive environment where young athletes can flourish both on and off the pitch.
